Steps

What the Correct Bin Inventories 2 Inventories Scheduled Task Does

  1. Recalculates on-hand inventory. It refreshes the Inventories table's quantity and value totals using confirmed purchases and invoiced sales, so the numbers you see match what has actually been received and sold.

  2. Updates inventory details. It resequences bins, retires empty Bin Inventories records that are no longer needed, creates new bin inventory records where a product now has stock, and recalculates target inventory levels, bin capacity, pick types, and forecast groups.

  3. Refreshes Next Receive Date. It updates the Next Receive Date and Units on inventory records based on open purchase orders, which is used for FIFO costing and reorder forecasting.

  4. Archives old bin transactions. It moves older Bin Trans records into Bin Trans History based on your data retention settings, keeping the live transaction table lean.

  5. Corrects mismatches between bins, locations, and inventory totals. If a bin's location no longer matches its transactions, or a product's total Bin Inventory doesn't match its Inventories record, the task creates adjusting Bin Trans entries to bring everything back into balance. This also cleans up "orphaned" units left behind on load sheets that were loaded or returned but not fully reconciled.

  6. Removes duplicate inactive bin records. Where a product has more than one inactive Pick Bin record holding the same information, it keeps one and removes the rest.

  7. Balances alternate-location picks (if enabled). If your system allows picking from an alternate location, it also creates the matching transfer transactions so inventory moved between locations reconciles correctly.

Best Practices

  • This task is fully automated — you never need to run it yourself. Seeing it listed in the scheduler is normal.

  • It's often triggered automatically about 30 minutes after certain inventory-affecting actions (such as zeroing inventory during an import), so Inventory Values may briefly lag behind until it finishes running.

  • On systems with a large amount of transaction history, a single run can take some time. That alone isn't a problem.
