What the Update Inventories Properties Scheduled Task Does

Update_Inventories_Properties is a background scheduled task that keeps your inventory numbers accurate and up to date. You don't run it yourself — it runs automatically on its own schedule, and you may simply notice it listed in the systems scheduler while it's working. Each time it runs, it works through the following steps:

  1. Cleans up inventory records - corrects any Purchase Transactions or Bin Inventories that have become linked to the wrong inventory record, and moves stray inventory into the correct default bin for locations that don't track detailed bin locations.

  2. Refreshes floor inventory counts - recalculates On-Floor Inventory, Delivered, and Received quantities so the inventory shown as available to sell matches what's actually in the warehouse.

  3. Maintains bin inventory records - creates Bin Inventory records for products that need them, deactivates ones that are empty and no longer needed, and recalculates Target Inventory and Bin Capacity for bins set up to manage these automatically.

  4. Keeps pick assignments current - updates each product's default Pick Bin, Pick Sequence, and Delivery Sequence so pick sheets and load sheets stay accurate.

  5. Handles Alternate Location picks - if Pick from Alternate Location is enabled, automatically creates the transfer transactions needed to account for inventory picked from a location other than its home Location.

  6. Updates purchasing information - recalculates each product's Next Receive Date based on open purchase orders, so reorder screens reflect incoming inventory accurately.

  7. Rebuilds daily inventory history - refreshes the Inventory Daily records used for historical inventory reporting and valuation.

Best Practices

  • This task runs automatically and doesn't need to be started manually - there's nothing for you to configure or trigger.

  • It's normal to see Update_Inventories_Properties running frequently in the scheduler. Frequent runs are what keep On-Floor Inventory and other inventory numbers current throughout the day.

  • If you notice this task failing repeatedly or running for an unusually long time, contact support rather than trying to run it again yourself - repeated failures usually point to a data issue that needs to be looked into.
