Steps

What the Rebuild Tables Scheduled Task Does

Rebuild Tables is an automated background task — it is not something you run or configure yourself. You may notice it listed on the Scheduled Tasks screen because it runs regularly on its own.

  1. It recalculates how many records are currently in each system table and updates that count in Encompass.

  2. It checks which columns in your database currently have an index and updates that information in Encompass.

  3. Encompass uses these two pieces of information to decide how to run your reports and searches as efficiently as possible — for example, sending queries on very large tables to the data warehouse instead of the live database, or taking advantage of an index when one is available.

Best Practices

  • No action is needed on your part when you see Rebuild Tables running — it is routine, automated maintenance.

  • Let it finish on its own; there's no need to stop or restart it.
