Written by Bailey Naas-Thornton

Minimum Version Required: 26.06

Pre-Conditions

Ensure the following system setup requirements are met before utilizing this automated mapping utility:

  • The Google Maps and Geocoding integrations must be active and configured within the system settings.

  • Customer records must be designated with the account type of Sale.

  • The linked distribution location must be actively synced with DSDLink (the export status is verified as active and not set to Manual).

Steps

The system automatically retrieves location coordinates and assigns unique mapping identifiers (Google Place ID) during nightly scheduled task, 'Geocoding Assign PlaceIDs'.

When executed, the system evaluates all eligible sales customers, formats their full matching address (comprising Company Name, Street Address, City, State, and Postal Code), safely retrieves the unique identifier (PlaceID) from Google, and updates the customer's place ID.

The following criteria must be in place in order for a customer's place ID to be updated

  1. Customers.GPSAccuracy = Not Set

  2. Customers.PlaceID is blank

  3. Customers.CustomerAccountType = Sale

Fields And Definitions

Place ID: A unique, persistent identifier assigned by Google Maps to a physical location. This value matches local records with global customer databases (such as CRM networks) and reduces redundant, costly external calls.

GPS Accuracy: A value representing the precision of coordinates. A status of Not Set indicates the customer location is eligible for automated geocoding.

Report Company Address: A dynamic field that automatically concatenates the Customer Name, Street Address, City, State, and Postal Code. This composite string is sent to the mapping service to ensure highly accurate location matches.

Best Practices

Ensure Address Data Quality: Keep your customer directory accurate. Always populate complete and precise street addresses, city names, states, and postal codes. Incomplete or misspelled addresses might prevent the geocoding engine from resolving the correct coordinates and unique identifiers.
