Steps

The system includes specialized logic to ensure that "Combo" type promotions remain intact during Out of Stock (OOS) processing. By default, the system will prevent partial shipments of bundled items when inventory is insufficient. To manage this behavior, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to the System Settings.

2. Locate the setting "Prevent out of stock rules from splitting combo type promotions when cutting product" (ID: 3453). Enable this setting to force the system to adjust all components of a combo promotion to match the maximum number of complete sets available.

3. Locate the setting "Prevent Out of Stock Rules from Backfilling products (does not apply to combo type promotions)" (ID: 3454). Enable this to prevent the system from automatically adding back individual items to a combo if they become available after a previous cut, which helps maintain the integrity of the original bundled offer.

4. Once these settings are configured, the Out of Stock rules will automatically calculate the maximum number of complete combo sets possible based on current inventory for all products within the bundle. The system will then adjust all line item quantities accordingly to match those complete sets.

Fields And Definitions

  • Combo Promotion: A bundled set of products sold together that requires specific quantities of each item to be considered a complete unit.

  • Cut (Out of Stock): The process where the system reduces the quantity of a product on an order because the inventory is unavailable for shipment.

  • Backfill: The process where the system automatically updates a previously "cut" order line with available inventory.

  • Setting 3453 (Prevent Split): When active, the system prevents the fragmentation of combo bundles. If one item in a bundle is unavailable, the entire bundle is adjusted down to the nearest whole, complete set.

  • Setting 3454 (Prevent Backfill): When active, the system disables automatic backfilling for items within a combo promotion, ensuring that the bundle does not become "partial" due to staggered inventory availability.

Best Practices

  • Maintain Bundle Integrity: Keep both Setting 3453 and 3454 enabled to ensure that customers always receive complete promotional bundles, which reduces manual customer service intervention and potential disputes over partial shipments.

  • Review Periodically: If your business model changes to allow partial fulfillment of combos, you may toggle these settings; however, note that disabling them may result in split combos on customer invoices.

  • Monitor Backorders: When these settings are enabled, be aware that items removed from a combo due to insufficient inventory will be moved to backorder. Use the backorder report to track when enough stock has arrived to fulfill the entire bundle.
