Q: What is Available Inventory?
A: Available Inventory represents the quantity of a product that is immediately available for sale and customer invoicing.
It is calculated by taking the physical, accessible stock on hand and subtracting all quantities that have already been reserved or committed through orders.
The standard calculation for Available Inventory is:
Available Inventory=Onfloor Inventory−Presales−Allocated
All the above fields can be found on the inventory table in Encompass.
Fields And Definitions
Available Inventory - The final quantity of a product available for sale/invoicing. Calculated as Onfloor Inventory - Presales - Allocated.
Onfloor Inventory - The physical inventory quantity currently in the facility's bins, excluding specific bin zones like the Adjust Bin. This value is updated by the scheduled task.
Presales - The total quantity of a product that has been added to invoices but has not yet been delivered to the customer. This quantity is deducted from the Onfloor Inventory.
Allocated - The total quantity of a product that has been reserved for a specific customer, chain, or rep via an allocation method. This quantity is deducted from the Onfloor Inventory.
Bin Inventories - The table or feature that records the specific quantity of a product held within individual storage locations (Bins). Direct imports to this table do not immediately update Available Inventory.
Adjust Bin - A specific Bin Zone used by the system as a balancing ledger when inventory is imported directly into other bins. Inventory in this bin is excluded from the Onfloor Inventory calculation.
Update_Inventories_OnFloorInventory - A Scheduled Task that runs on a timer (e.g., every 60 minutes) to recalculate and update the Onfloor Inventory value, which then drives the Available Inventory display.
Best Practices
Please note alternate locations will calculate available inventory for both locations using the same calculation.
A good place to check the current available inventory without entering invoice edit is the inventory table.
