Surfsight Camera Implementation: Device Setup

Implementation steps for Surfsight cameras: pair cameras to vehicles in Geotab, load Camera IMEI to GPS Devices (Import Routine 526199), set camera rules; events land in Vehicle Safety Events. Needs Geotab integration, v25.07+.

This document will guide a user through how to do setup and implement the Surfsight Integration with Encompass

Purpose

The Surfsight camera integration will allow customers to view and report on camera data in Encompass

Pairing or Adding Surfsight Cameras in Geotab

Click the Assets button

Click the Camera tab

Click the + Cameras button to add a single camera or multiple cameras

Add a single camera by:

  1. Selecting Surfsight as the camera provider

  2. Enter the Camera IMEI

  3. Select the Asset (Vehicle)

Add multiple cameras by:

  1. Selecting Surfsight as the camera provider

  2. Add the cameras and the assets they are paired with in the following format:

    <Camera IMEI number>, <Device serial number>

    Separate each pair with a line break.

    Example:
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Gxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Gxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Gxxxxxxxxxxx

Pairing or Adding Surfsight Cameras in Encompass

With the same Excel or CSV file used to create the cameras in Geotab, create a table import (updated only) into the GPS Devices table. Link on the GPS Device and update the Camera IMEI field.

NOTE: You can use Import Routine ID 526199 from any site as long as the file is formatted with two columns: 1) GPS Device Serial Number and 2) Camera IMEI.

Setting up Camera Rules in Geotab

There are two types of “events” that can be captured by the Surfsight cameras. Events from the camera itself, such as Smoking, Food and Drink, Lane Weaving, and events from the Geotab device, such as Speeding, Harsh Cornering.

Discuss with the customer what rules they would like to be turned on

Camera Events:

Go to Groups & Rules >> Rules

Turn on camera events from the Geotab GPS device by clicking on the camera icon and completing the media upload settings

Turn on camera events by scrolling down to ADVANCED and checking the rule next to an item

Settings can also be configured for each camera by clicking on the Assets >> Cameras >> Click on a Camera >> Devices & Setting tab.

As events happen, data will be imported into Encompass in the Vehicle Safety Events table.
