Pre-Conditions
You must have the necessary permissions to create and update Objectives and Surveys, as well as Promotions.
You must have an understanding of the relationship between promotions, objectives, objective schedules, and zone survey rules.
Steps
Define the logic and confirm survey based pricing is needed: Start by thinking about what logic you would like to occur with survey based pricing. Sometimes you do not need to use surveys and can instead use regular promotion qualifications.
Create the Promotion:
Add a new promotion and select the relevant Market.
From the drop-down menu, select the Line of products you created in the previous step.
Set the Amount of the discount.
Set the Start Date and End Date for the promotion.
Create a New Objective:
Navigate to the Objectives section and create a new objective.
Set the Assigned To Group to Salesman.
Add a Survey Question (e.g., "Is there any type of Leinenkugel display?") and set the Data Type to Yes/No.
Set the Prompt Task to Invoice Total to ensure the survey appears after the user backs out of the Invoice Edit Screen.
Set Up the Objective Schedule:
Add an objective schedule to define when the survey will be prompted.
Configure the Frequency (e.g., "Every Visit") and set the Start Date and End Date to match the promotion dates.
Add Zone Survey Rules:
Go to the Zone Survey Rules table to tie the promotion and survey together.
Select the Promo Zone and the Survey Question you created.
In the Answer field, type the value that corresponds to a "Yes" answer (typically "1").
Set the Expire After Days to define how long the deal will remain active after the initial invoice.
If you encounter issues, contact support and provide the exact error messages or codes, screenshots of the configuration, and the steps taken to set up the promotion and survey.
Fields And Definitions
What is Zone Survey Rules?
Zone Survey Rules link a promotion to a survey question and answer, allowing for dynamic pricing based on a survey response. The rules determine when a discount should be applied.
Use Cases
Giving a discount when a display is present: For example, a salesperson can answer "Yes" to a survey question asking if a Leinenkugel's display is in the store, and a $1.50 discount is then applied to the invoice for all Leinenkugel's products.
First-time buyer discounts: A customer who is a first-time buyer of any products could receive a 15% discount after a survey confirms their status.
Enforcing contracts and "What If" pricing: You can use Zone Survey Rules to enforce a contract with a retailer, such as a "Red Bull VIP" contract, or to demonstrate different pricing scenarios to a customer.
Fields and Definitions
Objective: A series of tasks or questions used to gather information, such as whether a customer has a product display.
Promotion: A pricing rule that applies a discount or other offer under specific conditions, which can be linked to a survey.
Objective Schedule: A configuration that dictates when a survey will be prompted to a user.
Zone Survey Rules: A set of conditions that link a survey answer to a promotion, enabling dynamic pricing.
Prompt Task: A setting that determines when a survey will appear on an Encompass Mobile device. For survey-based pricing, this is set to
Invoice Total to trigger the survey after an order is entered.
Line: A grouping of products that allows a promotion or survey to apply to multiple items at once.
Best Practices
Always test new surveys on the Encompass Server before rolling them out to mobile users.
Set the Auto Fail Tasks After Deadline to "True" for scheduled surveys to prevent them from becoming stale.
Make sure that the Start/End Dates for the Objective Schedule match the Promotion Start/End Dates.
If no location is set at the Market level and you have multiple locations, ensure a Promotion Location is tied to the Promotion.
