Pre-Conditions
The purpose of License Plates is to uniquely label and track individual pallets as they move through a warehouse. License plates make it easier to control individual pallet configurations, and communicate the need for specific pallet configurations within other warehouse processes like picking.
License Plate tracking should not be adopted unless pallet-level inventory or configurations are needed during the picking process. For example, pre-stacking CHEP pallets in a different configuration for club store picking. Other use cases for License Plates include hardware integrations that require pallet-level data, such as importing inventory into an ASRS system.
For all other granular inventory tracking needs, Bin Lots are recommended. Please visit the Bin Lots Help Resource for more information.
Steps
Reviewing License Plates in Warehouse Search
1. Using Encompass Mobile, navigate to Warehouse.
2. Tap Warehouse Search from the WMS home menu.
3. Scan a license plate to initiate the search.
4. Product and Bin Inventory data will be displayed as usual, but a banner will also be displayed at the top of the screen showing information on the license plate scanned.
5. The license plate banner will display the License Plate ID, Purchase Trans ID, Inventory, Expiration Date, and Current Bin.
Reviewing the License Plate Table
1. Using Universal Search, navigate to the License Plates table.
If the license plate you’re working with has an Encompass pallet tag, click on the “SSCC18” column header, and type in the string of numbers found below the barcode on the tag.
If the license plate you’re working with has a supplier pallet tag, click on the “Pallet Tag” column header, and type in the string of numbers found on the supplier pallet tag.
2. Click GO after entering the relevant data.
3. License Plate records for the matching SSCC18 or Pallet Tag will display for all historical bins the license plate has been in.
Note: In the current bin, look for the record where Inventory > 0.
4. When viewing License Plate records on the server, "Customer Pick Type", "Cases Per Pallet", and "Cases Per Layer" can be edited to make corrections as needed.
Best Practices
Scan license plates whenever possible, even in scanning-optional bin zones.
Double-check pallet configurations as inventory is counted and moved.
Require license plates in more pallet-regulated zones like backstock, and set pick zones as optional for continued tracking that doesn’t rely on the ability to scan.
Scan license plates during ePick to confirm the pick, and assign accurate date/batch information if confirming by pallet tag.
Supplier pallet tags can be used as license plates at any time by filling in the Pallet Tag field on a license plate record.
When reviewing the license plates table, search by the SSCC18 or Pallet Tag fields instead of License Plate ID.
