Minimum Version Required: 23.12

Pre-Conditions

  • The purpose of License Plates is to uniquely label and track individual pallets as they move through a warehouse. License plates make it easier to control individual pallet configurations, and communicate the need for specific pallet configurations within other warehouse processes like picking.

  • License Plate tracking should not be adopted unless pallet-level inventory or configurations are needed during the picking process. For example, pre-stacking CHEP pallets in a different configuration for club store picking. Other use cases for License Plates include hardware integrations that require pallet-level data, such as importing inventory into an ASRS system.

  • For all other granular inventory tracking needs, Bin Lots are recommended. Please visit the Bin Lots Help Resource for more information.

Steps

New License Plates can be created during the moving inventory process, typically because a pallet has been re-stacked into a new configuration, and now needs to be put away or moved in that new configuration.

1. Using Encompass Mobile, navigate to Warehouse.

2. Tap Move from the WMS home menu.

3. Scan or search for the “From Bin”.

4. Select a product:

  • A License Plate label or Supplier Pallet Tag may be scanned to search for a product, as well as indicate the specific license plate being worked with.

  • Scanning is not required, and users may also search or select the product to be moved/replenished/put away.

5. Tap the Create New License Plate button.

6. Select a purchase transaction to assign an expiration date or batch to the license plate being created: scroll through the "List View", or use the "Calendar" selection to search for a specific date.

7. Enter all data relevant to the license plate:

  • Required: Pallet Configuration Type, Cases Per Pallet, Cases Per Layer, and Total (Inventory).

  • Optional: A pallet Tag may be entered if creating a license plate record using a supplier pallet tag.

8. Tap Next to return to the "Move" screen.

Best Practices

  • Scan license plates whenever possible, even in scanning-optional bin zones.

  • Double-check pallet configurations as inventory is counted and moved.

  • Require license plates in more pallet-regulated zones like backstock, and set pick zones as optional for continued tracking that doesn’t rely on the ability to scan.

  • Scan license plates during ePick to confirm the pick, and assign accurate date/batch information if confirming by pallet tag.

  • Supplier pallet tags can be used as license plates at any time by filling in the Pallet Tag field on a license plate record.

  • When reviewing the license plates table, search by the SSCC18 or Pallet Tag fields instead of License Plate ID.
