Minimum Version Required: 23.12

Pre-Conditions

  • The purpose of License Plates is to uniquely label and track individual pallets as they move through a warehouse. License plates make it easier to control individual pallet configurations, and communicate the need for specific pallet configurations within other warehouse processes like picking.

  • License Plate tracking should not be adopted unless pallet-level inventory or configurations are needed during the picking process. For example, pre-stacking CHEP pallets in a different configuration for club store picking. Other use cases for License Plates include hardware integrations that require pallet-level data, such as importing inventory into an ASRS system.

  • For all other granular inventory tracking needs, Bin Lots are recommended. Please visit the Bin Lots Help Resource for more information.

Steps

1. Using Encompass Mobile, navigate to Warehouse.

2. Tap Inventory Count from the WMS home menu.

3. Follow normal inventory count steps found in theWMS Inventory Count help resource until on the quantity entry screen.

4. View the lower “Count By License Plate” section of the quantity entry screen.

  • All license plates currently found in the bin will be listed with no quantities populated in the Inventory boxes.

5. Tap into each box to enter counts, or scan a license plate to automatically focus on a specific Inventory box.

6. If license plates can’t be scanned, or individual pallet counting is too difficult to achieve given the physical location, enter a “Total” just above the license plate section, then toggle the “Distribute Total by FIFO” switch to on.

7. Once the Total and individual License Plate quantities are accurate, tap Next to complete the count.

Best Practices

  • Scan license plates whenever possible, even in scanning-optional bin zones.

  • Double-check pallet configurations as inventory is counted and moved.

  • Require license plates in more pallet-regulated zones like backstock, and set pick zones as optional for continued tracking that doesn’t rely on the ability to scan.

  • Scan license plates during ePick to confirm the pick, and assign accurate date/batch information if confirming by pallet tag.

  • Supplier pallet tags can be used as license plates at any time by filling in the Pallet Tag field on a license plate record.

  • When reviewing the license plates table, search by the SSCC18 or Pallet Tag fields instead of License Plate ID.
