Pre-Conditions
The purpose of License Plates is to uniquely label and track individual pallets as they move through a warehouse. License plates make it easier to control individual pallet configurations, and communicate the need for specific pallet configurations within other warehouse processes like picking.
License Plate tracking should not be adopted unless pallet-level inventory or configurations are needed during the picking process. For example, pre-stacking CHEP pallets in a different configuration for club store picking. Other use cases for License Plates include hardware integrations that require pallet-level data, such as importing inventory into an ASRS system.
For all other granular inventory tracking needs, Bin Lots are recommended. Please visit the Bin Lots Help Resource for more information.
Steps
1. Using Encompass Mobile, navigate to Warehouse.
2. Select the desired action from the WMS home menu: Move, Replenish, Put Away.
3. Follow normal action processes until on the product search/selection screen (for example, Performing a Put Away in Encompass Mobile).
4. Select a product:
A License Plate Label or supplier pallet tag may be scanned to search for a product, as well as indicate the specific license plate being worked with.
Scanning is not required, and users may also search or select the product to be Moved/Replenished/Put Away.
5. Within the quantity entry screen, view the lower “Move/Replenish/Put Away By License Plate” section to work with license plates.
6. Scan each License Plate that needs to be relocated; multiple can be moved at a time.
License plate quantities will automatically populate in the individual quantity boxes.
If individual quantities need to be changed, tap into the quantity box, or on the arrow on the right side of each line.
7. All quantities displayed will be summed up in the "total box" just above the license plate section.
8. Once all quantities and the total look correct, tap Next.
9. Continue with normal Move/Replenishment/Put Away steps.
Best Practices
Scan license plates whenever possible, even in scanning-optional bin zones.
Double-check pallet configurations as inventory is counted and moved.
Require license plates in more pallet-regulated zones like backstock, and set pick zones as optional for continued tracking that doesn’t rely on the ability to scan.
Scan license plates during ePick to confirm the pick, and assign accurate date/batch information if confirming by pallet tag.
Supplier pallet tags can be used as license plates at any time by filling in the Pallet Tag field on a license plate record.
When reviewing the license plates table, search by the SSCC18 or Pallet Tag fields instead of License Plate ID.
