Pre-Conditions
The purpose of License Plates is to uniquely label and track individual pallets as they move through a warehouse. License plates make it easier to control individual pallet configurations, and communicate the need for specific pallet configurations within other warehouse processes like picking.
License Plate tracking should not be adopted unless pallet-level inventory or configurations are needed during the picking process. For example, pre-stacking CHEP pallets in a different configuration for club store picking. Other use cases for License Plates include hardware integrations that require pallet-level data, such as importing inventory into an ASRS system.
For all other granular inventory tracking needs, Bin Lots are recommended. Please visit the Bin Lots Help Resource for more information.
Steps
1. Confirm that License Plate Tracking is turned on for the Location and Receiving Bin Zone.
2. Using Encompass Mobile, navigate to the Warehouse.
3. Tap into Receiving from the WMS home menu.
4. Select a shipment to receive.
Note: license plates are not created until the “Receive” button is tapped at the end of the receiving process, so the “Print on Quantity Entry” option for pallet tags is not available when using license plates.
5. If license plate pallet tags are needed (not using supplier pallet tags), tap the “Print on Receive” option.
6. Follow the normal steps to receive a purchase in encompass mobile.
7. License plates are automatically generated upon tapping “Receive,” and pallet tags will print out accordingly if selected at the beginning of the receiving process.
Best Practices
Scan license plates whenever possible, even in scanning-optional bin zones.
Double-check pallet configurations as inventory is counted and moved.
Require license plates in more pallet-regulated zones like backstock, and set pick zones as optional for continued tracking that doesn’t rely on the ability to scan.
Scan license plates during ePick to confirm the pick, and assign accurate date/batch information if confirmed by pallet tag.
Supplier pallet tags can be used as license plates at any time by filling in the Pallet Tag field on a license plate record.
When reviewing the license plates table, search by the SSCC18 or Pallet Tag fields instead of License Plate ID.
