Pre-Conditions
Encompass is an integration partner with Samsara and is not a reseller of Samsara hardware. Encompass is not responsible for troubleshooting hardware issues.
The Samsara integration will import telematics, safety, and engine data into Encompass.
Steps
Here is the setup process the Samsara integration.
Creating the API Token in Samsara
Click the Setting (gear) icon
Click the API Tokens menu
Click Add an API Token
Set the Name of the token = Encompass
Set the Tag Access = Entire Organization (recommended). However, if there is a need to only use a subset of the vehicles for the integration, set up a tag for those vehicles and set the tag access accordingly.
Set the Scope = Global Read (recommended)
Click the Copy to Clipboard link
Copying the API Token into Encompass
Go to the GPS Authentications table
Click the Add GPS Authentication button
API Provider: Samsara
Username: Paste the API Token
Password: just enter anything, we will just us the token to authentate.
Set the Reseller = 3rd Party (This field is Encompass SQL Run permission only)
GPS Devices records will be created automatically, usually within 15 - 30 minutes but is based on Samsara device connectivity.
Once the GPS Devices are created, go to the Vehicles table and set the GPS Device field.
Final Step
An Encompass employee will need to create a Customers Telematics record (in Support) to enable the connection.
Best Practices
Keep Vehicle and GPS Data accurate in Encompass if Samsara hardware is moved to different vehicles.
Ensure the correct Vehicle is on the route/load sheet. This can be automated with vehicle%20verification" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vehicle Verifications surveys.
