Fields And Definitions
Batch - this is another word for Bin Lot, or a collection of inventory belonging to the same date, batch code, or vintage. Batch information pulls from Purchase Transactions.
Purchase Transaction - this represents a layer of inventory that was received or produced, resulting in new inventory on the warehouse floor. Purchase transaction is where date, batch, and vintage information originates in the system.
Best Practices
Default Purchase Transactions: The Encompass system is always trying to make sure that inventory is rotating out in FIFO or FEFO order, depending on System Setting 372: Sort FIFO Layers descending by this Date field. When invoices are first created in Encompass, they are assigned a default purchase transaction, which represents the current layer of inventory that should be depleting.
If a layer of inventory is depleted during the day, the system may continue to assign this purchase transaction by default on invoices, until the new depleting layer can be calculated overnight. The Assign Batch tool will display the default purchase transaction, and therefore batch, that was set automatically, but use of the tool will help adjust anything that seems off.
Directing ePick Users to Bins: Once batches have been assigned using the Assign Batch tool, this information is then used to direct ePick users to the bins that house the selected batches. Pay attention to the Bin field when using the Assign Batch tool, because this can help determine the best option to choose if a batch is living in multiple different bins
