How to Setup Free Goods Promotion

  2. Click the Add Promotions button

  3. Enter values to all required and applicable optional fields displayed in the Add Promotions form and click Add Record button when complete.

TIP: In addition to all the usual fields, ensure to enter values for to the Min Purchase and Min Purchase Count fields.

    a. Min Purchase sets the lowest quantity the customer must purchase to qualify for the promotion. For example, on a Buy 5, Get 1 promotion the Min Purchase is set to 5 or on a Buy 10, Get 2 the Min Purchase is set to 10.
    b. Min Product Count sets the lowest number of unique products a customer must purchase to qualify. For example, if 5 products are part of a 'mix and match' deal, this setting determines how many of those different products a customer needs to buy.

  4. Add or create the supporting Sub Table records for Promotion Zone, Promotions Customer, and Promotions Location by clicking their designated buttons

  9. Repeat Step 8 until all qualifying products are saved and Promotions Products records are created for each qualifying product.

  10. Review the Promotions Products records and arrow in to the one that will be added to invoices as the Free Unit

  11. In the Free Units field on the Promotions Products record, enter the number of Free Units to be invoiced and click Save Changes when complete

Example Scenario:

We're offering a Buy 5, Get 1 Free Promotion on the Joint Juice products. Customers have to purchase a minimum of 5 cases, but they can't all be the same and there are 3 kinds to choose from: Sippin Indica, Naptime Nectar, or Mood Juice. That means we would set Min Products to 5, Min Product Count to 2. We've set the Naptime Nectar to be the Free Unit, which means that when customers purchase this product, it contributes to the quantity discount AND a free unit is added to qualifying invoices.

The Promotion and Promotions Products setup looks like:

And the invoice with both qualifying and free units might look like:

Best Practices

  • Market is a required field, and if your Market includes Promotions Zones and Promotions Locations, those do not need to be added to the Promotions Zones or Promotions Locations Sub Tables

  • If you have grouped products in a Line and applied them to the Promotion, the Products in the Line do not need to be added to the Promotions Products Sub Table
