PIM- Product Information Management FAQ
Q: How were my existing Brands and Products created in the first place?
Connect Distributor Reporting and PIM are directly connected to dsdlink which is the Encompass crowd sourced global database. This means that previous users of dsdlink (likely from distributors) created the existing Brands/Products for your supplier(s). The goal of PIM is to make sure that suppliers have the ability to manage their own Brands/Products within dsdlink. Once data is created in PIM, that data is then accessible across Encompass.
Q: What is the difference between a Brand Family, Brand, and Product?
A Brand Family is a group or collection of similarly branded flavors (examples- a rotating IPA series, seasonals, barrel aged).
A Brand is the flavor, so anytime that there is a new/distinct flavor produced by your company it should be a new Brand in PIM. For vintage conscious users, each vintage should be its own flavor. Please add the vintage after the Brand name, i.e. 2019
A Product is simply the package configuration tied to a brand. It is common to have many different products under a single brand if your company utilizes different packages.
Q: I have duplicates of Brands/Products, how do I consolidate them?
This functionality is not offered in PIM and you will need to contact Support via the Support Dashboard on the left hand side of the screen to have this completed by an analyst.
Q: What images should I be using?
For Brands a brand logo should be used that is not package specific. For Products, a package with a brand logo on it is appropriate, i.e. a bottle or 6pack with the brand logo
