Minimum Version Required: 25.12
Pre-Conditions
Products and Production Stage Type tables need to be set up before building out recipes. QC Templates require measurements in the Measurements table in order to leverage these in a Recipe.
Steps
How to Build Recipes
1. Using Universal Search, navigate to the Recipe Management dashboard.
Note: The Recipe Management dashboard can also be access from the Production Cloud Home dashboard.
2. Click Add Recipe Version.
This is the collection of steps and ingredients that will be used to schedule Production Orders and Batches.
3. Fill out all required fields as well as supporting fields:
a. Recipe Version - The unique name of the version. It is recommended to use: Brand, volume produced, and Product Type
Example: Chow Chillin 30BBL Brite Beer
b. Location -The Facility this recipe will be made in.
c. Product - The Inventoried Product that will be produced at the end of this Recipe.
d. Recipe Type - Distinguishes production recipes from packaging, maintenance, distilling etc.
e. Planned Units - The amount of Product planned on producing at the end of this recipe.
f. UoM (Unit of Measure) - The unit by which the output goods will be measured
4. Click Add Recipe Version.
There is now an empty recipe with no Recipe Stages, Recipe Components or Instructions.
Adding Recipe Stages:
1. Click Add Recipe Stages.
2. Fill out all required fields:
a. Stage Type - The action name for the Components and Instructions
Examples: Boiling, Blending, Mashing, Fermenting, Carbonating, etc
b. Output per Turn - Identifies how much each turn will produce.
c. Planned Units - The amount planned on producing in this stage. Units are measured based on the UoM selected for the Recipe.
d. Turnable - How this Recipe Stage plans for multiple batching
i. Turnable = True: When this Recipe is scheduled to be executed twice in a row, this recipe stage will be duplicated, back-to-back.
ii. Turnable = False: Only the Components and Planned Units will double, but occur in a single vessel as a single stage.
e. Lead Time - Estimated time required to complete the Recipe Stage.
3. Click Add Recipe Stage.
Fields And Definitions
Recipe Versions - Set of Instructions, broken up into Stages to produce a predetermined Product.
Recipe Stages - A singular workflow for Users to follow. Grouping Instructions and Components by Timing and Sequence allows Users to do everything in the proper order at the proper time.
Recipe Management Dashboard - the hub for managing Recipes:
- Products - includes Raw Material Products, Work in Process Products, and Finished Goods Products
- Production Stage Types - A grouping of actions/inputs that comprise a single Recipe Stage in a Recipe. Verbs like Blending, Filtering, Pasteurizing, etc. feature here
- QC Measurements - Quality Control Measurements that are taken during any Recipe at any Stage. Measurements are pulled from the QC Measurements Table
Note: To automatically add QC Templates into Recipes as they are being built, please refer to the QC Templates Training
Recipe Stages:
Transfer When Complete - Determines the end of this stage.
Select True: If this stage ends by transferring to a new piece of equipment
Select False: The current stage is completed, but we are not yet ready to move product into the equipment required for the next stage.
Memo - An overall note for Users during this Recipe Stage. It will appear at the top of the card on Users handhelds.
Add Instruction - Input direction for Users to see during Handheld processing. This adds line-by-line memos to guide users through processing.
Timing - This dictates the amount of time into the Recipe Stage that an Instruction or a Component is to be followed or added.
Note: Timing also dictates which Components and Instructions show up on the same card when processing on the Handheld
Sequence -The order in which Components or Instructions with the same Timing are displayed on Users Handhelds.
Best Practices
Recipes should be built as if one full batch of the Product is being made. Multiple-Batching can be entered at the time Recipes are scheduled, so one recipe can be used for many different Production volumes.
Build Recipes to a single run - Use ‘turnable’ on a recipe to double brew into a larger vessel.
Example: If brewing 30bbls for ferment on a 15bbl system, make the brew or the mash/boil turnable at 15bbls each then have the fermentation stage plan for 15bbl
Unit of Measure on recipe Components MUST be set to the correct measurement used in the Recipe.
Example: 2-Row Malt is bought and inventoried pounds, but used in kilograms. The system will automatically make those conversions from the Package set on the Prodcut to the unit it is used in the Recipe. If conversions cross measurement types, (such as buying something in gallons but using it in pounds), the weight per unit of that Component is set on its Product record.
Pass-Through Equipment such as filtration or pasteurization between stages should be an instruction at the end of the stage users are transferring from.
